As we begin the second year of the Connections small group, we are reminded
that we were organized to be a resource for concern, prayer, assistance, and
fellowship to those in our congregation who have special needs. These could
include but are not limited to a ride to the doctor or store, make a phone
call, or send a card or note. We called members who were alone or faced a
problem. Our purpose was to be a friend. We want to live out our Lord’s
command; to love the Lord our God with all your heart, soul and mind, and
our neighbor as ourselves.
The original team comprised 25 members divided into groups who were each
assigned several members who are elderly, widows or widowers, or shut-ins.
Families who have undergone surgery or hospitalization, and those in nursing
homes were also included. More than 37 families were contacted. We would
make contact as appropriate, sometimes once or more a week, but at least
once a month depending on circumstances. The connections were also intended
to show we were in prayer for them, and concerned for their welfare. It was
an opportunity to let people know we were available if the need arose.
Our purpose was always to use our Lord’s example of humble service. We
wanted it known that we were there for them, even if they couldn’t be in
church each week.
Should you find that you have a need where ‘Connections’ might be of help,
we hope
you will feel free to contact us.
As we begin another year, we look forward to again humbly serving the Lord
with joy.
