Update from
Atoka, Tennessee for July 11, 2005

Good Evening once again from Atoka, Tennessee!

The work may have begun yesterday, but it was only a little work compared to what was accomplished today!

Something fell from heaven today, us folks from Chicago weren't quite sure what it might be called, then we were told it was rain! There are even pictures of it! It felt wonderful! (We wish we could send some back home.) The rain hampered the outside work, but advanced the work done indoors.

The basement went from a dark dingy room to much of it being tiled, most of the walls faux painted, and a whole wall tore out and partially rebuilt. The kitchen was completely gutted, then mudded, ready for paint and cabinets tomorrow. The bathrooms on the lower level were also gutted and prepped for tile and more work.

On the main level, new electrical and ceiling tiles were installed. The sanctuary was full of sew-ers who were busy making curtains and other sewing projects. Pastor Ken's former office is in the beginning stages of becoming a bathroom. (He is getting a new office, and a special seat!) The stained glass windows were being cleaned, only one person was entrusted to their care, Shirley DeBoer was the only one allowed to touch them.

The top floor was also started, the parts and pieces were being brought up to prepare to sheetrock the area. The Matts (VandeWerken and Iwema) made a good team doing anything and everything people asked of them.

Lunch and Dinner were served today by the women of the Atoka Presbyterian Church at the Atoka Methodist Church, just down the road. The food is home cooked and southern to the core, it's great!

We made an addition to our team today, Rick Roon made it safety.

Prayer Requests:
A prayer of thanks that Rick made it here safely.
Please pray that the rain would hold off and the weather tolerable for work outside, which is plentiful.
A prayer of thanks for the wonderful friendships and good times being had. You'd never guess we were working as much as we laugh and have a good time.
