Update from
Napa, California for
August 6, 2004
Today was our last work day here
in Napa at Valley Community Church. It seemed like more progress was made
today, than any day so far.
While we didn’t get to go for a hot air balloon ride, we at least got to see
them in the air today. You can see from the photos who really wished she was
up in one.
The stage was completed late this afternoon. More work is needed in the
sanctuary, but it requires some permits that have been very frustrating to
acquire. Hopefully early in the week the permits can be obtained and the
ceiling can be completed.
The store room went from being bare drywall to primed, painted, shelving put
together and the shelves filled up, all today. It was amazing to see the
progression of that room. So many people helped in that room, it’s hard to
remember all who helped!
The outside of VCC was also spruced up today. The shed was finished painted,
the gutters outside painted, grills put on holes in the building, the
outside of the church painted, and plenty more landscaping done today.
The bathrooms also had work completed. The women’s bathroom was given its
final coat of paint, the curtains were put up, vanity installed, and ready
to use. The men’s room also was completed today. The only thing left is drop
ceilings and lighting, and that’s work for next week.
The kitchen came as far as we could take it today. We waited all day for
cabinet doors and drawer fronts, but they never showed up. So the walls were
given their final coat of paint and the kitchen cleaned up. The oven doors
were given a new coat of paint and now actually look like they belong in the
21st century.
The Noah’s ark mural continued, but still has some work to do. It should be
completed next week.
The final work was completed in the sewing room today. Bean bags and
curtains were completed.
Tomorrow 13 of the Building Stones head home. Al, Art, Betty, Bruno, and Ken
will remain for another week to continue the work we’ve started.
