Update from
Napa, California for
August 3, 2004

This morning started out with a great breakfast, made by Betty and John VW. They prepared raisin pancakes, oh wait, those weren't raisins, they were flies. So apparently California has a fly problem. We'll try not to bring them home with us. Actually the pancakes were great, so has their breakfasts been so far this week.

The work morning started with the walls coming down, ok maybe just one. But it was a big wall. Al, Art, Bruno, Dave (from VCC), and Rick all shared the jackhammer again and pushed the wall down. Only one minor injury (we won't say who).

After waiting half a day for the dumpster to be emptied, we were able to remove the rest of the debris from the demolition. Once the area was clear, the new stage was begun. Meanwhile the empty dumpster is almost full again. Many people helped move debris from the sanctuary and arrange it in the dumpster, we are Dutch after all, we need to get our moneys worth.

While the sanctuary took main place yesterday, today was a day for other projects around church.

Shirley and Wendy painted the men's washroom which required everyone to use the women's bathroom, much to the chagrin of most of the men.

John S. installed the vanity, sink, and accessories in the newly painted bathroom.

John also filled in kitchen service window in the kitchen and moved around some cabinets.

Shirley, Mary Visker, LuAnn, and Erin prepared and painted the cabinets with primer in the kitchen.

Betty, Wendy, Judy and Erin completed a third of the Noah's ark mural in the nursery.

Diane and Joan sewed curtains and more costumes today. Joan also serves as our "official photographer" for the website.

Laura, John VW, Bob, and Jillian worked tearing down a wall in the storage room and rebuilding a new wall. Jillian had the pleasure of tearing the wall down, more like beating the snot out of the wall. She now has no frustrations.

Rog Visker, Mary, Bob, and Jillian scaled the roof and the scaffolding to paint the outside of the church building. Bob only went so high and said, "Any higher and I hire someone." That's where Mary took over. Then Rog took over for Mary. Jillian was just as happy to sit on a ladder on the roof and paint.

Many volunteers from VCC were there today helping in the yard digging bushes out, and getting the yard prepared for a full load of donated plants and greenery to be delivered this week.

Rog Visker and Ken spent their day running here and there all over town. Chasing people and parts. Also making plans for the inspectors and future projects.
