Update - August 15, 2004

Update from
Napa, California for
August 1, 2004

California is known for being more relaxed, and our day proved that! Imagine not starting church until 11:00 AM. This morning we had the chance to sleep in, not so. Most people were still on Chicago time and woke up early. Many took walks and discovered the area around where they are staying.

By 9:00 AM we all meet at the Kings house for breakfast. A family from Valley Community Church generously offered us the use of their entire house while they are on vacation. Many of the Building Stones are staying there, but we are also using their house for all the cooking and eating. So we all met at the Kings house and enjoyed breakfast out on the patio.

Some walked to church, the rest rode. We enjoyed the fellowship and worship with the family of VCC. Calvin took part in the service with our consistory members praying with the consistory of VCC and even Shirley DeBoer helping distribute communion. Ken Dekker also presented a check to VCC for over $6000 for the building fund project.

After the service the Building Stones and members from VCC helped take down all the furniture in the sanctuary and prepare the room for the destruction and construction that will begin tomorrow (Monday).

Everyone returned to the Kings for lunch, and then we all took a tour of Napa Valley. We toured a winery and learned about the process of making wine. Most of the group even got to taste a few different types. We continued a driving tour of Napa looking at all the different wineries and fields of grapes.

We enjoyed a nice meal back at the house and the men sat outside by the fire and the women sat inside doing a craft.

Please pray for the work will begin tomorrow. Please pray for safety and strength for the work ahead of us.
